Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region – A drone strike on the road between Sulaymaniyah and Dukan has targeted a convoy reportedly linked to Omar Ilkhanizadeh, Deputy Leader of the Komala Party of Iran.
According to local sources, the attack was carried out using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Ilkhanizadeh was believed to be the intended target; however, he was not inside the vehicle that was struck and was traveling in a separate car along the same route at the time of the attack.
The targeted vehicle was carrying four individuals. As a result of the strike, a Komala Peshmerga member identified as Harsh Ranjbari was killed, while three others sustained injuries. Their medical condition has not yet been officially disclosed.
The incident adds to a series of past attacks against Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Over the past decades, Kurdish opposition parties have accused the Islamic Republic of Iran of carrying out cross-border operations targeting their members. Kurdish opposition sources report that since 1993, more than 500 Kurdish activists have been assassinated in the Kurdistan Region in operations attributed to Tehran.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for the latest attack. Authorities in the Kurdistan Region have not yet released a detailed statement regarding the circumstances of the incident. An investigation is reportedly underway.
