Political parties and forces in East Kurdistan, through a joint statement, have called upon the freedom-loving people of Kurdistan to hold a general strike on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
In this statement, they highlighted the severe economic hardships, inflation, unemployment, and lack of political freedoms while condemning the oppressive policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the issuance of execution sentences for dozens of political activists, particularly Pakhshan Azizi and Verisha Moradi. The political parties of Kurdistan emphasized that a general strike, as a civil and peaceful movement, could be an effective step toward preventing these executions and defending the rights of political prisoners.
The statement read: "General strikes in Kurdistan have always been a civil tool of resistance against oppression and injustice. Today, once again, it is essential for the solidarity of the people of Kurdistan to be displayed in a worthy and widespread manner. This unity can, like the 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi' (Women, Life, Freedom) revolution, send a message of resistance and struggle to all of Iran while supporting the rights of political prisoners who chant 'No to Executions' weekly in over 30 prisons across Iran."
The signatories of the statement have urged all the people of Kurdistan to shut down workplaces, markets, and schools on January 22 to demonstrate the power of people's unity in pursuit of an urgent political and humanitarian goal. They stressed that this action could save innocent lives and prevent further grief for families.
The statement also underscored the necessity of resisting an inhumane regime and urged the people of Kurdistan to show through this movement that silence in the face of oppression is not an option.
