In a new escalation targeting the Kurdistan Region, the Islamic Republic of Iran launched six ballistic missiles early Tuesday morning at positions belonging to the Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces in the Soran border area, according to local reports and official sources.
The missiles reportedly struck the headquarters of the 7th Infantry Division of the First Zone and the 5th Division of the Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces. As a result of the attack, six Peshmerga fighters were killed and 30 others were injured.
The victims have been identified as Rebar Abdullah, Zakari Bekhashashi, Ramin Adil, Shahab Bekhashashi, Kaywan Muzaffar, and Pashtevan Mala Musa.
The attack is being described by Kurdish sources as one of the latest episodes in a broader pattern of Iranian military escalation against the Kurdistan Region. According to the same sources, the missile strikes occurred alongside drone attacks targeting Erbil and the area near the U.S. Consulate, raising fears of a wider effort to destabilize the region.
Jinamedia condemned the attack, describing it as a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kurdistan Region. The outlet said the continuing strikes demonstrate Tehran’s use of Kurdish areas as a stage for its broader regional and political confrontations.
Observers note that the Kurdistan Region has repeatedly come under missile and drone attacks during periods of heightened tension in the Middle East. Kurdish sources say that more than 400 such attacks have taken place since the beginning of recent regional escalations, deepening concerns over civilian safety and regional stability.
Jinamedia extended condolences to the families of those killed and wished a swift recovery to the wounded. It also called on the international community to break its silence and take a clear position against what it described as systematic and state-sponsored attacks by Tehran.
The Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces, meanwhile, reaffirmed their role as defenders of the land and people of Kurdistan and stressed their right to respond to attacks and protect the dignity and security of the population.
