Jina Media | March 7, 2026: The Alliance of Kurdish Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan has issued a strongly worded statement condemning recent remarks by Reza Pahlavi, describing his threats to deploy the army against Kurdish political demands as “a continuation of the historical logic of repression against the Kurdish nation in Iran.”

The reaction follows a post published by Pahlavi on the social media platform X, in which he accused Kurdish parties of separatism and warned that, in the event of political change in Iran, the army would be tasked with confronting such movements.

The Kurdish Question: From Denial to Military Threat

In its statement, the Alliance frames the Kurdish question not as a peripheral issue, but as one of the most fundamental unresolved structural problems within the Iranian state. According to the Alliance, for more than a century Kurdish demands have consistently been met with securitization, militarization, and accusations of “separatism.”

The statement argues that threatening to use the army against the political demands of the Kurdish nation reveals that, in Pahlavi’s envisioned future Iran, the Kurdish question would once again be defined as a “security issue” rather than a matter of democratic rights.

From the Alliance’s perspective, such an approach does not differ in substance from the policies historically pursued by both the Islamic Republic and the former Pahlavi monarchy toward Kurdistan.

Kurdistan: A Vanguard of Resistance, Not an Ally of Authoritarianism

A central part of the statement rejects allegations that Kurdish parties collaborated with the Islamic Republic, calling such claims “a blatant distortion of history.” The Alliance emphasizes that from the earliest days of the new regime’s establishment in 1979, Kurdistan became the target of extensive military assaults and systematic repression.

Over more than four decades, the statement notes, Kurdistan has remained one of the principal centers of resistance against the Islamic Republic, paying a heavy price in lives, imprisonment, and displacement. Accusing Kurdish political movements of siding with authoritarian rule, the Alliance argues, ignores this documented history of struggle and sacrifice.

Challenging the Narrative of “Territorial Integrity”

The Alliance also questions dominant narratives surrounding the defense of Iran’s territorial integrity. Referring to historical territorial concessions during the Pahlavi era, the statement argues that key border decisions were made without consulting the will of the peoples concerned.

According to the Alliance, while past governments claimed to defend national unity, their most visible displays of power were directed inward—particularly against Kurdish civilians and democratic movements—rather than outward against external threats.

The Jina Movement and Divisions Within the Opposition

The statement further addresses developments related to the Jina (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement, asserting that certain opposition currents, including those aligned with Pahlavi, played a divisive role at critical moments.

The Alliance maintains that Kurdistan stood at the forefront of the recent nationwide protests, while some narratives sought to downplay or absolve security forces of responsibility for repression. In this context, the statement frames current threats as part of a broader pattern of political positioning that marginalizes Kurdish agency.

A Call for Unity Around National Rights

Concluding its statement, the Alliance of Kurdish Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan reiterates its commitment to defending the rights of the Kurdish nation and other oppressed nations within Iran. It stresses that centralist and totalizing discourses—whether articulated by ruling authorities or segments of the opposition—cannot offer a democratic solution to Iran’s multinational reality.

The Alliance calls on all Kurdish political and civil actors who believe in the right to self-determination, national justice, and equality to join the coalition in confronting authoritarian and militarized approaches to political demands.

The statement ends by asserting that threats and intimidation will not deter the Kurdish nation from pursuing its rights. On the contrary, it argues, such rhetoric only strengthens the resolve to achieve freedom, democracy, and a definitive end to all forms of dictatorship in Iran.
