A new political alliance titled the Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan has officially announced its formation through a public statement, declaring the unification of several Kurdish political parties and movements in Iranian Kurdistan.
In its founding declaration, the coalition emphasizes the long-standing, organized struggle of the Kurdish national and political movement in Iranian Kurdistan and states that its primary objectives are the overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the realization of the Kurdish nation’s right to self-determination, and the establishment of a national and democratic institution based on the political will of the Kurdish people in Kurdistan.
The statement describes Kurdistan as one of the main centers of resistance against the Islamic Republic since the 1979 revolution, highlighting the heavy costs borne by the region over decades. It refers to imposed warfare, the execution and assassination of political leaders, the deaths of thousands of activists and fighters in armed confrontations or in prisons, and the continued militarization and securitization of Kurdistan under the policies of the Iranian state.
According to the statement, the Islamic Republic is considered politically illegitimate; however, its survival is attributed to fragmentation and disunity among opposition forces. The coalition explains that it emerged after a period of dialogue and field-level cooperation within the “Center for Dialogue and Cooperation,” aiming to consolidate Kurdish political ranks and strengthen Kurdistan’s role in shaping Iran’s political future.
The alliance also expresses support for nationwide protests and struggles by the peoples of Iran against the Islamic Republic, while stressing the need for coordinated political and field-level cooperation between Kurdish parties and civil society organizations and their counterparts across other regions of Iran.
The coalition states that any cooperation with other political forces will be based on three fundamental principles: recognition of the rights of nations, commitment to democracy, and rejection of all forms of dictatorship. It further calls for a comprehensive and democratic transitional process in Iran and commits itself to working toward the establishment of a democratic and secular political system that guarantees the rights of nations, religions, and diverse communities throughout the country.
Among its additional commitments, the coalition highlights environmental protection, social justice, gender equality, the institutionalization of free elections, and the protection of fundamental rights for all national and religious diversities in Kurdistan. It also underscores the necessity of establishing a structured, democratic administrative system in Iranian Kurdistan.
Concluding the statement, the coalition argues that the current political moment in Iran makes unity and shared political discourse among opposition forces more urgent than ever. It announces readiness to cooperate with other parties and movements outside the coalition and calls upon the people of Kurdistan to join and identify themselves with this new political framework.
The statement was issued on March 3, 2026 (February 22, 2026).
The members of the Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan include:
Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK)
Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK)
Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (KDPI)

Observers view this development as one of the most significant coordinated efforts among Kurdish political forces in recent years—an initiative that could influence the configuration of opposition forces and the evolving political landscape of Iran.
