In the early hours of Wednesday morning, centers and bases belonging to Kurdish political activists in Southern Kurdistan were targeted by a missile and drone attack carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran. As a result of the attack, at least one member of the Kurdistan Freedom Party lost his life.

According to an official statement by the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), the attack took place on the morning of January 21, 2026 (1 Bahman 2725) and involved the use of missiles and drones, targeting one of the bases of the Kurdistan National Guard deep inside the territory of the Kurdistan Region.

As a result of the attack, a member of the party named Mozafar Mohammadzadeh was killed and, according to the party’s statement, “joined the caravan of the martyrs of Kurdistan.”

The Kurdistan Freedom Party strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a terrorist act and a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region. The party emphasized that such attacks will never weaken the will or morale of Kurdish forces.

This attack comes amid a series of similar incidents over recent years, during which centers of Kurdish parties and political activists in various parts of the Kurdistan Region have repeatedly been targeted by missile and drone attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran—attacks that in many cases have resulted in the killing and injury of civilians.

JinaMedia assesses these attacks as part of a sustained policy of cross-border intimidation and repression against the Kurdish political movement—a policy that, despite its serious humanitarian and security consequences, has so far failed to provoke a serious response from the international community.
